Victor Clement Maassen, 89, Saint Peters, formerly of Bonnots Mill and Frankenstein, passed away Monday, Feb.15, 2021 in Saint Charles.
He was born July 1, 1931, to Leo and Elizabeth Maassen (nee Boillot) in Bonnots Mill.
He was married to his wife, Marcella for 69 years and was most proud of this accomplishment and loved her dearly. They were high school sweethearts and were married at the ages of 20 and 19 respectively. They would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in November of 2021.
Victor was a Navy veteran during the Korean War and took that role seriously. He loved his country and proudly displayed the American flag. At many of his homes he had tall flag poles installed to proudly display the flag.
Victor was known by many names: Victor C, Vic, dad, grandpa, and PoPo! He was known as a wonderful husband, father, friend, brother, and uncle. The roles of husband and father were taken most passionately as documented by a short note he left which was labeled “open after my death, dad”
“To Marcy and kids-First of all, I love all you guys, all six of you kids and Marcy. You have made my life happy and worth living. I love you very much and I thank you for all you have done for me. All you in-laws, grandkids, and great-grandkids, I love you all.”
Victor was preceded in death by parents, Leo and Elizabeth; son-In-law, Mark Robb; brothers, Harold, Wilfrid, Elmer, William and Homer Maassen; and sister, Martha Bret.
He is survived by wife, Marcella of Saint Peters; sons, Douglas Maassen and wife Jo Ann and Sidney Maassen and wife Kristine; daughters, Donna Taylor and husband William, Victoria Robb; Sandra Maassen and friend Jim Lyberis and Lisa Kirkpatrick and husband Douglas; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and other family members and friends.
Victor never knew a stranger and would start up a friendly conversation with most anyone! His smile and humor were contagious and easily given. Victor enjoyed large family gatherings and reunions as he was known as a family historian and story-teller. He enjoyed traveling in his early retirement to places such as Alaska and Texas.
A private family-only visitation will be held from 9 - 10 a.m. (today), Wednesday, Feb 24, followed by a Mass at 10 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church in St. Peters.
Memorial contributions suggested to Society of St. Vincent DePaul St. Louis.
