Chamois faced a tough field at last week’s Tipton tournament, but the Pirates battled through two games.
“We went into this tournament knowing it would be a challenge for us, and I’m very proud of the effort and fight my guys showed,” said Coach Parker Jett. “We didn’t play to our potential, but the season is still very young, and we are gonna keep working hard and keep getting better every day. I’m excited for what’s to come!”
On Dec. 3, the Pirates lost to California, 64-37.
Jaxon Wuelling led the team with 18 points, including three treys, and a 9-10 mark at the free-throw line. Braydon Cotton added 14 (2 treys), and Max McKague (trey) added five.
The night before, Chamois opened with an 85-42 loss to South Callaway.
A strong first quarter gave way to lopsided quarters in the second and third. The Pirates trailed 49-26 at the break, and 77-37 after three.
Chamois covered 7-19 from three-point range, and 7-13 at the stripe while shooting 37.8% overall.
Cotton drained four three-pointers and went 2-3 at the line on his way to 20 points, as J. Wuelling (trey, 3-4 FT) added 10, Greyson Gerloff (trey) and Kaden Wuelling each scored five, and Levi Weed and McKague posted one point apiece. J. Wuelling and K. Wuelling posted three assists each to lead the team.
On the glass, Cotton’s seven rebounds paced the team, as J. Wuelling snagged three, Gerloff had two, and Ben Ruegge and Weed counted one each.
Defensively, K. Wuelling posted two steals, while McKague, J. Wuelling, and Gerloff added one apiece.
