HERMANN — Despite a 51-35 loss on Friday to Hermann, Chamois coach Parker Jett is pleased with the team’s performance.
“I’m very proud of our group tonight,” he said. “This was a tough game against a well-coached team. We played at our pace, and played really well on the defensive end. Some nights, shots aren’t gonna fall, and that’s okay. They fought hard, and I’m very excited for the Tipton tournament!”
The teams played relatively evenly through the opening frame, with Chamois trailing by just two, 8-6. However, a 16-6 Hermann second-quarter advantage created a deficit the Pirates couldn’t overcome.
Trailing 24-12 at the break, Chamois played to a 17-14 third, as the spread opened to 41-26.
Jaxon Wuelling (trey, 2-6 FT) led the Pirates with 19 points, as Brayden Cotton added two three-pointers and went 3-3 at the line for 15 points. Levi Weed added one point from the stripe, where the team went 6-11.
Kaden Wuelling had a team-high three assists, and J. Wuelling added another.
On the glass, Cotton capped a double-double with 10 rebounds, followed by Grayson Gerloff (4), J. Wuelling (2), and K. Wuelling, Max McKague, and Weed (1 apiece).
Defensively, Cotton posted two blocks and a steal, as Gerloff added two steals, and J. Wuelling had one.
