Pirates celebrate Senior Night with big win over Bourbon

Chamois had a strong showing on Friday for Senior Night with a 68-34 win over Bourbon. That came after a 38-14 victory at Wellsville-Middletown.

“We really played well on both ends of the floor this week and are starting to find our way together,” said Coach Parker Jett. “Our team plays hard on the defensive end, and it showed big this week! We will keep meshing together as the season goes on, and I’m super proud of the progress that has already been made. We have some big games coming up, and I’m super excited we’ll be amped and ready to go!”

In Friday’s game, Chamois led 18-7 after the first quarter and 34-14 at the break as the team shot 49.2% overall and converted four three-point attempts. The Pirates were solid in transition, scoring 12 points while holding Bourbon to just two, and held a 20-1 point advantage in points off turnovers.

Jaxon Wuelling drained three treys and went 3-6 at the stripe en route to a team-high 24 points. Brayden Cotton (2-2 FT) added 18 points, followed by Grayson Gerloff (8), Oliver Carter (6), Victor Slack (5), Levi Weed (4), and Kaden Wuelling (3). Max McKague posted seven assists, K. Wuelling had six, J. Wuelling added five, and Weed finished with two.

Cotton and Carter grabbed seven rebounds apiece to lead the Pirates, followed by Gerloff (6), Weed (5), J. Wuelling and K. Wuelling (4 each), and Slack (2).

Defensively, J. Wuelling posted four steals, Gerloff, Cotton, and McKague each had two, and Weed, K. Wuelling, and Slack counted one apiece. Cotton added two blocks, and K. Wuelling had another.

On Tuesday of last week, the Pirates had their way with WM, holding them to three first-half points and just 11 in the second half.

McKague scored eight to lead the way as Cotton put in seven, Weed and K. Wuelling posted six apiece, J. Wuelling added five, Gerloff scored four, and Slack finished with two.

In girls’ action, the Lady Pirates lost to Bourbon, 52-12, and fell to Wellsville-Middletown by a 41-8 score. No stats were made available.
