Schollmeyer leads Lady Pirates at New Bloomfield, Van-Far

Chamois sophomore Carly Schollmeyer led the Lady Pirates at New Bloomfield on March 27 with a first-place finish in the 3200 (15:39.40).

Kaden Wuelling delivered a strong effort in the hurdles, finishing fourth in the 110-meter hurdles (19.20) and eighth in the 300m hurdles (52.57).

In the field events, Savanah Sieg took fifth in the discus (80’11), while Brayden Cotton finished fifth in the shot put (38’3) and sixth in the discus (106’7).

Coach John Leach said the meet provided a good early-season benchmark for the team. “It was a very long day at the meet,” he said. “Overall, the kids did pretty well in the meet. We all must get better as we go through the season to have a shot at doing well at districts. We have had three practice meets now, so it is time to step up and do much better.”

PIRATES BATTLE AT VAN-FAR

Chamois track and field athletes competed March 23 at the Van-Far meet, turning in several strong efforts despite cold conditions.

Coach Leach said the meet served as a valuable early-season opportunity for the team. “The kids did well at the Van-Far meet,” he said. “It was cold, but the kids ran pretty well. This was a practice meet with no medals given, so it is a long way up there, but it was good. I’m proud of the effort they gave.”

Carly Schollmeyer led the girls with a win in the 3200 (15:39.40) and added a third-place finish in the triple jump (30-9).

Wuelling turned in a strong showing in the hurdles, taking third in both the 110-meter hurdles (18.80) and the 300m hurdles (49.59).

In the field events, Cotton finished second in the shot put (40-10) and the discus (120’7), while Sieg added a fifth-place finish in the discus (80’11) and seventh in the shot put (24’9).
