Chamois lost to Eugene last Monday in straight sets, 5-25, 14-25.

“The girls had a rough beginning and never quite recovered until the end of the second game,” said Coach Leisha Kempker.

“We didn’t get an opportunity to run our offense because our passing was not on point. We hope to turn that around and utilize our offense to score some points.”

The team’s overall serve percentage was 89% as Ariel Owens and Gabby Farmer each recorded an ace.

At the net, Katie Keilholz and Alexis Slusser each had a kill, and defensively, MaKenna Wuelling and Keilholz shared the lead with six digs apiece to go with four by G. Farmer, and one each by Slusser and Owens.

In their previous match against Calvary Lutheran, the last Pirates lost 14-25, 16-25.

“The girls really played hard and never slowed down,” said Kempker.

“They worked well together as a team and stayed positive to the end. They all did really well defensively against a strong hitting team. Our serve percentage as a team was 96%, which is the best so far this season.”

Owens led with three aces while Wuelling had two and Emely Farmer added one. Keilholz posted four kills, three digs and a block, while Wuelling added three kills, three assists and nine digs.

Slusser had three digs and block, while E. Farmer finished with three digs and G. Farmer had one.

Friday’s “Fight On” match to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research was a success as the Lady Pirates defeated Bunceton but no details were available at press
